Legal Counsel and Principal Assistant – National Football League Players Association

Richard Berthelsen joined the NFL players union as a lawyer in 1972 and became a General Counsel in 1983. He was directly involved in negotiating and writing four labour agreements and five contract extensions. Berthelsen was appointed as the union’s acting executive in August 2008. Since 2012, he’s acted as the Senior Legal Consultant for the NFLPA.
